For over four decades, law enforcement spent 200,000 personnel hours and $10 million in an effort to catch the “Golden State Killer,” who terrorized California with countless rapes and murders between 1975 and 1986. They didn’t identify even a single suspect.
Then Barbara Rae-Venter got involved in the effort. The retired patent lawyer cracked the case in 63 days, spent $217, did it between tennis and gardening and never left her house.
